During Black History Month, the UFC acknowledged Maurice Smith, as the first Black UFC Champion, and as a member of the Pioneer Wing in the UFC Hall of Fame (inducted 2017). I was pleased to learn about Maurice and to watch him devastate Mark Coleman in the early days of UFC. Awesome fight!
June was a difficult month. Protests for Black Lives Matter took center stage. Police continued to shoot black men, even while protests took place. Covid-19 cases escalated at alarming rates. People remained divided over wearing masks or not.
This year was my first time acknowledging Juneteenth. I’ve heard of the holiday before, but now, I’m paying attention. The struggle continues.
