Social Distance

From the comic: “Stay safe and follow guidelines. Do your part to stop the spread of Covid-19.”

From joking about trying to find toilet paper and hand sanitizer, we moved to a conversation about “social distancing”. This is the move that helped to break trust between people. Even family members were advised to stay 6 feet away from anyone who was feeling sick in their home.

Six Feet Away, Please!

At work, all kinds of changes took place to allow people to be near each other, but still far enough away to avoid droplets from coughing or sneezing.

For those who weren’t considered “essential”, working from home became the new normal. All schools were closed. The sudden shift to on-line classes and home schooling for every student in the world was mind-boggling.

Stay Home!

People rushed to grocery stores, clearing the shelves with panic buying. Everyone wanted at least two weeks of food, just in case they ended up quarantined at home.

No gyms. No entertainment. No bars or sitting together in restaurants. No large gatherings. Church services streamed live — only. No vacations or unnecessary travel. So strange!

  • What was your first experience of social distancing?
  • How did social distancing change how you operated in your daily life?
